Campaigning for a community-owned social centre in New Cross/Deptford.
A social centre is where a community gets to know itself: through food, culture and conversation. We need these spaces now more than ever – that’s why Lewisham Commons is campaigning for a new, sustainable social centre in the area. This starts with acquiring our own self-managed building, from which any profits will get reinvested into other community-led development projects.
Through the Public Common Partnership model, we want to shift power and resources out of the hands of private developers and into the hands of the community. The long term goal is to bring more and more of the borough into common ownership and reverse the decline of social and cultural spaces.
Looking to get involved? Watch this space! In the meantime, why not come to one of our (free) monthly community meals at Avalon Cafe – see the News and Events section below for more information.
